The Ministry of Intercession - Day 14

Pray for the church of the future.  

"and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God."  - Psalm 78:8 ESV.

Some people might have it easier saying 'future church' than 'church of the future', others again might say it's just different wording but same meaning. I think Andrew Murray chose that exact wording because it underscores that the church of the future is not just those who currently are young inevitable will be older and thus the next church.  

The future will be different with a whole set of new and different problems that are not just a repeat of the old. They therefore need to be equipped with knowledge and wisdom to read and interpretate their society. A self absorbed and rebellious society whose top priority seem to be consuming. 

The church of the future will need to be a church that can step out of the things like consumerism which the whole society currently is blinded by and step into servant hood and humility. 

How to pray.  

Ps 119:145 calls us to cry out with our whole heart and ask God. Ask Him to prepare the hearts of the leaders of the future. Ask God to raise up godly leaders with a courageous heart. A heart that will stand for what is right. A heart that is willing to put others first and serve.
