The Ministry of Intercession - Day 10
Praying for missions is important. It's important that the Spirit leads in the mission field and guides and go before the missionaries. Leading like it lead Paul to go certain places and avoid others. It takes time, time in prayer to get tuned in to hearing and trusting the guiding of the Holy Spirit. It is crucial that the missionaries are guided by the Holy Spirit and not their/our own ideas as good as they might be. Missionaries need prayer for these things. They need prayer for favor with the people and officials they meet. They've received and answered a call to work in the mission field whether it be inner city or out in the bush, or if the audience are surfers or suits, nurses or nine-graders. No matter situation or audience they need the Holy Spirit.
How to pray.
Get to know our missionaries by name. Know where they live and their situation. Ask the Spirit to show you or give you compassion for an area or a missionary that you then can follow and pray for. They are Trinity's face to those people they're reaching out to and the missionary is counting on us to stand behind them. Not just financially but even more spiritually. When we support them financially we have done one part. Supporting them spiritually is another part. They need both parts. They need us to discern and take action in both parts. And for us to do that we need to spend time in prayer. Wait for God to stir us and then lift up in prayer what is put on our heart.
