A Call to 9 Days of Prayer between Ascension and Pentecost

Jesus' grace to each of you. There have been a couple of consistent calls to prayer recently.

+Patrick and Lilian called out for devotion to prayer in a meeting at our home a while ago.
+Elaine Rothlisberger called us to prayer a while ago to battle the outbreak of cancer diagnosis connected to Trinity.
+Deserie Norgaard mentioned it through tears yesterday.
+Nearly every Elder's meeting sounds the refrain, "And that is why we need to devote ourselves to prayer."
+Pastor Paul Anderson wrote about it in an email yesterday. He invited us to respond to "Heaven's call for extraordinary prayer to match our extraordinary need." And, "Extraordinary faith to match the heart and power of God and yield powerful miracles; that cancer and other life-threatening diseases would yield to the authority of Christ." He finished his email by saying, "Perhaps God is calling you to extraordinary prayer in this critical hour. May he grant you grace for your assignment. Our answer is not found in reversing a financial disaster or getting our choice in the White House or averting a terrorist threat. It is found in a fresh move of God's mighty Spirit in our midst and in our land."

It is tempting when called to prayer to put it off, or to ascent to our need for it, but not do it. Instead, I feel we are being called to get at it. Do you feel the "extraordinary need" that Pastor Paul writes about?

Here is my suggestion. 9 days of prayer between tomorrow and Pentecost Sunday. The old church called it a novena (nine day). The early disciples did this during the same time between Jesus' Ascension (celebrated today) and the Holy Spirit's coming at Pentecost (celebrated May 24th). Acts 1.14 says that, "All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers."

I would like to propose the following schedule:
Every morning from 6-7am in the Sanctuary
Friday, May 15 Theme: Repentance: our extraordinary need
Saturday, May 16 Theme: Repentance: Trinity's extraordinary need
Sunday, May 17 Theme: Repentance: South Bay's extraordinary need
Monday, May 18 Theme: Waiting: God's visitation to us
Tuesday, May 19 Theme: Waiting: God's visitation to Trinity
Wednesday, May 20 Theme: Waiting: God's visitation to the South Bay
Thursday, May 21 Theme: Revival:
Friday, May 22 Theme: Revival:
Saturday, May 23 Theme: Revival:

If you can not come to the Trinity Sanctuary, join us from your commute or your home. Let us know you are praying too.

Poul Erik responded to me with these powerful words: "I will be fasting for this. If anyone wants to join me in fasting in whatever way you can, half day, fruit fast etc. let me know.
I'm excited for what the Lord will bring through this. I am thirsty for God to move among us at Trinity, to do away with cancer and do miracles to HIS glory."

How do you resond?
