Vesper Tears
O Lord open my lips: And my mouth will declare your praise. (invitatory)
Morgan and Kelly (interns) looked dressed for a cold night as they walked across Broadway. We usually have our Monday-Friday Vespers in the Trinity Courtyard. Outside with plenty of space for guests. Our sanctuary under construction or closed for covid. Some colder nights we decide to meet in room 3 or the MPR. Tonight I said, "Do you think we should meet indoors somewhere?" Morgan, the leader on Mondays said, "How about the sanctuary on the new chairs?' Great idea!
So we met in the sanctuary. I didn't expect to be so overcome with joy at praying in the sanctuary with others.
O gladsome light, pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven...You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices. (Phos hilaron)
Indeed happy.
Happy to be in community with these people, here.
To come in the evening and the morning.
To hear God's word.
To respond in prayer.
Some days, small in number.
Other days, joined by many.
Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time, with one accord to make our common supplications to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will grant their requests..." (Prayer of St. John Chrystostom)
I thought of getting up to take a picture of the first small community gathering back in the sanctuary for prayer, for the very purpose for which it was sanctified. But, I was enjoying being present with God and his people too much. So, a picture of the new chairs will have to do, and you can use your imagination. Or, better yet, come join us Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at 4:30-5 PM or Wednesday 8:30-9 PM.
