Gaudate! Rejoice! Even in the Sunset of Civilization

The Lord is at hand. In so many ways it feels like the sun is setting over western civilization. Kind of a drunken decadence that has forgotten all the truth, beauty, and goodness of earlier eras. A vicious and violent tribalism that we call polarization that defends the indefensible behaviors from our own tribe and cancels, without a drip of pity the transgressions, no matter how petty, of the other tribe.

While the sun may be setting on western civilization, for the believer, it is always just before sunrise. The Lord is at hand. Civilizations have come and gone. Jesus is coming again. And not to reform western civilization, nor is he coming for a nation. He is coming for a bride—his bride. Rejoice! Again! Reasonableness. No need for anxiety. Every need for prayer, WITH thanksgiving. And God’s peace will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. The Lord is at hand. Sunrise is breaking.
