The Ministry of Intercession - Day 1
We begin our prayer journey together. If you had asked me ten days ago, "What grade do you think we are in in matters of prayer? Are we in elementary school, or junior high, or are we in university?" I would have said, "I would say 9th grade." After these nine (novena) days of prayer between Ascension and Pentecost, my answer would be drastically different. I think we are in preschool. We are far closer to the ABC's than the PHD's.
In preschool prayer, we learned "A" stands for ask. A true and honest asking. Not just asking for Him to come bless our plans, but asking Him what His plans are, and if we have a part in them. We don't ask Him to attend us, but the Holy Spirit moves us to attend Him.
In this first day of "The Ministry of Intercession," Andrew Murray writes, "Our Lord has one gift to His church, the church has one need, and all prayer unites in this one petition--the power of the Holy Spirit. Make it your prayer." (175)
Do you have a difficult time with many needs? I do. Trinity does. Sometimes the list overwealms. Lately it certainly has. All of our needs really point to one need: the power of the Holy Spirit. The cancer would be no problem if we had a cure. The unemployment would be a breeze if we had provision. The division would be reconciled if we had revelation. The marriage repaired if we had promise-keeping hearts. We have looked to ourselves for healing, provision, revelation, and promise-keeping power. How foolish of us. The Holy Spirit is our resource for our real needs.
Murray writes, "Ask for the power of that Holy Spirit everywhere. Mention places or groups where you specially ask it to be seen." (175)
What are you asking for, we will join you.
Don't forget Tuesday morning prayer tomorrow 6-7am in the Trinity Sanctuary.
