Signing the Community Commitment |
Blessing each member |
"May the Lord... |
...give you grace this year... |
...to walk in this way." |
Last night was a very important night in our Theta Young Adult Community as we made commitment to one another before the Lord to walk in the ways and commitments of our community's Rule of Life www.trinitysanpedro.org/ruleoflife
We also got to record today's Ground Up Grace daily text podcast: https://www.groundupgrace.com/podcasts/10-28-2021
Please pray for those walking in this way of discipleship this year!
Here was the Commitment Service:
Opening Prayer: O Lord Jesus Christ, you became poor for our sake that we might be rich through your poverty: Guide and sanctify we pray, those whom you call to follow you in the Theta Community with its ways and commitments, that by prayer and service they may enrich your Church, and by their life and worship may glorify your name; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
Hymn: Jesus Paid It All
I hear the Savior say, "Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all."
Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
Lord, now indeed I find Thy pow’r, and Thine alone,
Can change the leper’s spots
And melt the heart of stone.
And when before the throne,
I stand in Him complete,
Jesus dies my soul to save my lips shall still repeat

Scripture Reading: Matthew 16.21-26
21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
Message
Rule of Life:
1. What verse describes “The Way of Grace”?
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
2 Corinthians 13.14
2. What verse calls us to “The Way of the Cross”?
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16.24
3. What verse invites “The Way of Word & Prayer”?
Give me life according to your word! Psalm 119.25
4. What verse challenges us to “Commitment to Reconciliation”?
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us a ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5.17-19
5. What verse exhorts us to “Commitment to Rest & Work”?
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3.17
6. Where are we called to a “Commitment to Welcome”?
Therefore, welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15.7
7. What is God’s vision for our “Commitments to Life Together”?
In him, you are also being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. Ephesians 2.22
Renewal of Baptismal Vows
Do you here, in the presence of God and one another renew the vows made at your baptism and commit yourself to keep them?
I do
Do you renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways?
I do
Do you believe in and trust God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
I do believe.
Responsive Reading from Joel 2 and Acts 2
The Lord will pour out his Spirit upon all flesh,
And your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your old men shall dream dreams
And your young men shall see visions.
You shall know that the Lord is in the midst of his people,
That he is the Lord and there is none else.
And it shall come to pass
That everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen!
Commitment to the Theta Community Rule of Life
Is it your desire to commit to the way of grace, the way of the cross and the way of word and prayer for this coming school year?
It is.
Will you commit yourself to reconciliation, to rest and work, to welcome, and to life together?
I will
During Build My Life, you may sign your name to the Theta Commitment poster. After you sign, Nathan, Joy, and Kierra will bless you with these words:
Kierra: May the Lord

Song: Build My Life
Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for you
Oh, we live for you
Jesus, the Name above every other name
Jesus, the only One who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for you
Holy, there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
Show me who You are and fill me
With Your heart and lead me
In your love to those around me
I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
