This Changes Everything

Easter Letter 2013

At the very center of the Christian faith lies a message about the historical events of this Holy Week, culminating in the announcement, "He has risen!"

We have heard some important announcements this past year. "Obama wins." "Habemus Papam - We have a Pope!" These are significant announcements that will make a difference in our future. The news of Jesus' resurrection makes the biggest difference for our future, but also changes everything about our past and present. If it is true that "He is risen" indeed, this changes everything!

For those invested in everything staying the same, this is not good news. For those who rely on the poor remaining poor, and the sick remaining sick, and the addicted remaining addicted, and the dead remaining dead, Jesus' resurrection power over sin, death, and the Devil, is a threat.

But for us, who long for God to change everything, the resurrection of Jesus from the dead is God's first move in undoing everything that has gone wrong.

The Easter announcement is a warning to the powers that be, that God is alive and well and making all things new. If you want to maintain the status quo, I wouldn't show up to church on Easter. But if you need a change, come and join us at Trinity as we hear this announcement, and we join God in the renewal of all things!

In the Crucified and Risen Lord's Love,
Nathan Hoff, pastor at Trinity
