Give us Barabbas?
Give us Barabbas, the crowds still say.
How else do you expect to save the day?
We’re at risk of loosing more ground
Nothing better than the sword can be found
to take back our amendments—our God-given rights
to the things we hold dear—we won’t go down without fights
I’ll see you in court, we’ve got litigation
You can’t steal our power, you can’t take our nation
With all of your persecuting, you’ve left us no choice
We will stand for ourselves and raise our voice
There is a cultural war, and we will not lose
So the way of the dragon and the beast, we choose
Give us Barabbas, The crowds still say.
How else do you expect to save the day?
But, next to Barabbas is bloodied Jesus, all rights stripped away
With all of the shouting, has he anything to say?
Can’t you call down all the heavenly power
Call them down at this important hour
Call in a favor, a divine intervention
But you stand quiet, your rights you don’t mention
You hardly say a thing
Until the cross, they bring
And when they take everything from you
You say, “Father forgive, they know not what they do.”
You don’t count your rights as something to hold
Spreading arms wide on the cross instead of grasping the sword.
The sword will change the world unfortunately, it’s true.
But the old rugged cross is the only way to make all things new.
