παλιγγενεσίας Matthew 19.28 and Titus 3.5
Regenesis person. Regenesis church. Regenesis world.
LIFE! Breath from God “Prophesy, “Come from the four winds” Ezekiel 36.9.
Sound of a mighty rushing wind Acts 2
YHWH’s Ruach/Jesus’ Pneuma
Pentecost: (Dr Gemechis Buba: wind, sound, fire, and language.)
Undoing of Exodus 32.28 —“And that day about three thousand men of the people fell.” Undoing of Babel in Genesis 11. Confused and scattered. Promise of the prophets fulfilled.
- Truth is generated (John 14.16; Luke 12)
- Unity is generated (Philippians 1): “Long before the Spirit was a theme of doctrine, He was a fact in the experience of the community.” Schweitzer TDNT 6:396; Peter’s experience in Caesaria was foundational witness to the first church council. They are fellow Pentecost people. Ephesians too.
- Courage is generated (2 Cor 1; John 14) Turtullian, “Coach of the martyrs”
- Fruit is generated (Gal 5): The Law and the Spirit
Galatians 3.25 — no longer under the guardian of the law. Also, Gal 4.4-7 No longer a slave to sin or the elementary principles of the world, but a son, because of the Spirit. Gal 5.18 “But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”
Romans 6.15 — What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! V.17 “But thanks be to God, that you were were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed.”
2 Corinthians 3.3,6 — “And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of sone but on tablets of human hearts...has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
CA XX: “It is only by faith that forgiveness of sins and grace are apprehended, and because through faith the Holy Spirit is received, hearts are so renewed and endowed with new affections as to be able to bring forth good works. Ambrose says, “Faith is the mother of the good will and the right deed.” Tappert, 45.
Ongoing baptism (daily dying daily rising); The whole of the Christian’s life is one of repentance; The whole of the Christian life... “acquisition of the Holy Spirit.” St Seraphim of Sarov. Quoted in Schmemann’s Baptism book 104.
- 5. Gifts are generated (Acts 2; 1 Cor 12-14; Ro 12; 1 P 4; Eph 4) Paul, “Seek the gifts” 1 Corinthians 14.1
Hilary of Poitiers to use them: Calls the charisms “Profitable gifts.” Then says, “Let us make use of such generous gifts.” (McDonnell and Montague, 146).
Moltmann on Tongues: 185 quoting Christenson :)
On Prophecy: 186
On Healing: 189
Christopher Blumhardt called ‘Miracles of the kingdom.” In the dawn of the new creation of all things, they are really not ‘miracles’ at all. They are completely natural and just what we have to expect...Jesus’ healings are reminders of hope.” (Moltmann, 190).
Hilary, “The Holy Spirit is called a river. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we are made drunk. Because out of us, as a source, various streams of grace flow.”
St Ambrose: Let us drink the sober intoxication of the Spirit with joy.
Cyril of Jerusalem: They are not drunk in the way you might think. They are indeed drunk, but with the sober intoxication.
St Augustine to the newly baptized on Easter: page 4
