Holy Saturday — And he descended...

And he descended...

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, - 1 Peter 3:18-19

Was this the day you went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison — those in death’s dark bonds? Could the light even penetrate this long dark wintery wait?

I bet Adam recognized your image and your sweat and wounds as you grabbed him by the forearm and said, “let’s go!”

I bet Sarah laughed the laugh of utter belief as she saw you, HER SON!

I bet timid Gideon was courageous in the great procession out of death.

I bet David bowed before you, his king.

I bet Jeremiah and Isaiah and all the others said something like, “Our exile is finished, we are going home!”

I bet Jonah said, “I knew there was going to be a way out of this darkness, just like there was a way out of that fish-smelling darkness.”

Therefore it says, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."  - Ephesians 5:14
