Jesus Loves Kids!
And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. Mark 10:16
Jesus loves young people—do you? Jesus loves un-young people too—do you? Up until now, my favorite night at Trinity took place this last Sunday night. We ate together, we played together, we worshipped together, our High School young men and women touched and blessed our Elementary school kids, we split up and learned from God Word about faith and life and parenting and who knows what else.
Dianne McGivern told me the following:
My mother cooks an Italian Sunday dinner for us every week. The other day she pulled us aside and asked who was going to continue our family tradition after she was gone. She said, “What we do on Sunday is the glue that holds our family together.” Then Dianne said, “What we did tonight is the glue that holds our church family together.”
Brenda Pond wrote this to me:
I really enjoyed the Sunday night get together, I got a strong sense that we're just one big family, which is a real blessing to me since my family is far away. I'm so thankful that you listened to the Lord on this one, it's going to be some great times together as a family, and I believe it will strengthen the body of Christ.
Paul tells us that the church is “the household of faith” (Galatians 6.10). We really are family. A few months ago we had a family meeting—families need those sometimes. We could probably use more of them (The next one will be Sunday, May 6th between worship services). At our last family meeting we identified these values:
Worshipping together—and providing opportunities for the generations to connect with Jesus—side by side!
Growing together—and providing opportunities for the generations to be engaged by God’s word—side by side!
Serving together—and providing opportunities for the generations to serve their neighbor—side by side!
God values every person at every age, and every generation needs regeneration. God is not waiting until anyone is a certain age to forgive their sins and save them. He wants you NOW! We want to value everyone the Lord does.
God values family, and has put children in them for a reason. We also value family and want to do everything to encourage and strengthen the families that the Lord entrusts to us.
At our meeting we also asked each other some family questions that would help in our life together. Here they are:
Do you know where your kids are? Are they under appropriate supervision? Are your kids in appropriate places at appropriate times?
I would ask all of us to re-commit to loving and value those whom the Lord loves and values. Lets re-commit to worshipping together, growing together, and serving together. You are a dear “household of faith,” and I anticipate the future that we share together.
Lord bless, Pastor Nathan
